About Glen Rock
Glen Rock is located in Bergen County, and was inspired by the remains of an enormous retreating glacier. Glen Rock was founded in 1894 from portions of Saddle River and Ridgewood. According to a 1985 The New York Times article, Glen Rock was named because of the 570 ton boulder that was left behind when the glaciers retracted from New Jersey after the last ice age. It still stands at the northern end of the township’s main street, Rock Road. It used to be used by earlier settlers as a base for Indian signal fires and then later used as a trail marker for colonists. Glen Rock is a relatively small community. Glen Rock, with a population of almost 12,000, offers the feel of a small town, but with New York City only 22 miles away it also offers easy transportation for personal or work related visits in the city.
