Totowa is a borough of slightly more than 10,000 residents in Southern Passaic County. With five active cemeteries, Totowa has the distinction of being one of the few towns with more dead residents than live ones. At thirty seven percent, Totowa has the second highest percentage of Italian Americans in New Jersey, and the seventh highest in the entire United States. Totowa has an excellent kindergarten through eighth grade public school system; its residents attend Passaic Valley High School in neighboring Little Falls, New Jersey. Totowa’s first aid and fire first responders are all volunteers. Also located in Totowa are the Totowa Barracks of the New Jersey State Police. Totowa was until recently the longtime home of blues legend Hubert Sumlin, who played guitar with Howlin’ Wolf on some of the greatest blues anthems of all time, such as Smokestack Lightning, Spoonful, Back Door Man, Little Red Rooster and Wang Dang Doodle. Floyd Vevino, host of the Uncle Floyd Show, boxing trainers Lou, Dan and Dino Duva, and New York Giants Plaxico Burris and David Diehl have all lived or worked in Totowa, New Jersey.
